It's Official! Facing Cancer Together has received our 501(c)3 designation from the IRS, recognizing us as a non-profit organization serving people with cancer in the Greater Boston area. All donations to FCT are tax deductible! We can now move forward in our fund raising initiatives and solidify our presence in the comminity. It is with great pride and excitement that we write to you to let you know that Facing Cancer Together is now officially launched! After months of work, and hours of donated time, energy and expertise, we have filed all the necessary paper work with the state and the IRS and are on our way to becoming a community based cancer support organization serving the greater Boston area.
The really hard work is just beginning for us as we look ahead and think about how we will sustain our new organization.
Our focus now is on raising the money necessary to keep our doors open. We need your help in this. We hope you will consider a donation and ask those in your personal network to do so as well. We are determined to have Facing Cancer Together establish firm roots in the community, and provide services at no cost, but we cannot do that without financial support. This summer we start paying rent to the church. As we grow, our expenses for printing, telephone, and all that is needed to support increased programs and services also grow. By October, we need to be paying salaries to the staff and adding staff to cover administrative demands.
Consider the following very basic costs we are facing before we even hire administrative staff:
Rent - $12,000 per year
7 Weekly support groups - $7500 each per year = $52,500
Writing for Wellness - $7500 per year
Monthly Networking Groups - $2000 per year
Yoga - $3600 per year
To fully operate FCT and guarantee its continuation, we need to raise a total of $275,000! We hope you can help.
Join us as founding supporters of Facing Cancer Together and one day you will be able to say "I helped FCT get started"! Every dollar counts!

Nutrition and the Immune System

In this interactive workshop you will learn what, in general, as well as what nutritionally can compromise the immune system. We will discuss, in detail, how to enhance the functioning of your immune system. Handouts will be available to integrate what you learn in the class into your daily life.
Sheila Wolfson is a nutritionist in Natick,MA licensed by the state of Massachusetts, as well as a Certified Nutrition Specialist who has been in private practice for 23 years. Sheila has taught at Framingham State College, The Wellness Community of Greater Boston and teaches annually at the Celebration of Life Day at BIDMC.
A second yoga class is being offered by Gretchen Daggett who many of you will remember has taught with us for years. She is now offering meditation on Thursdays at 2:30 and yoga from 3:15 - 4:15.
Starting Wednesday November 4 from 2:00 - 4:00, Jack Klugerman will be offering his popular drawing class. Please RSVP the office at 617 332 5777 if you would like to attend.

An important message
As we move toward winter and into the flu season, it is especially important this year that we stay particularly careful about any cold or early flu symptoms that you might experience If you have ANY of the following symptoms, we ask that you not attend programs at FCT: sore throat, scratchy throat, headache, runny or stuffy nose, aching body, fever, chills, cough, fatigue, vomiting or diarrhea. Please err on the side of being "overly cautious" when you consider whether to attend an event or group at Facing Cancer Together. We want to remind you all that many of our participants have very suppressed immune systems. If you have any question as to whether you should come, you should opt to stay home. We want to keep our community as free from unnecessary exposure to the flu as we are able.
